Contract terms

Mindbody wrote its own contract explainer: 12, 24 or 36 months, auto-renewal, and no cancelling mid-term

October 5, 2026

Mindbody published a page titled "Mindbody Contracts, Cancellation Policies, and Data Exports Explained". It carries the line "Last updated: March 12, 2026". Most vendors in this category leave these answers to a sales call, so the page gets that credit first.

Here is what it says, read on October 5, 2026 next to Mindbody's Terms of Service, which are marked "Last updated: March 20, 2026". Every quote below is Mindbody's own wording.

The term is 12, 24 or 36 months

The explainer gives the term lengths as "12, 24, or 36 months" and says they depend on plan and business needs. The longest of those is three years. A studio that signs it in October 2026 is under contract until October 2029.

There is a shorter path. The page says "Most month-to-month contracts begin with a standard 90-day minimum commitment." After that, it says, "you may generally cancel at any time after the 90-day minimum by providing at least 30 days' notice before your next billing date." So month to month at Mindbody starts with three months you cannot leave.

Which one you are on is decided by your Order Form. The explainer points back to that document five different ways, and that is the right instinct. The blog post is the general rule. The Order Form is your contract.

It renews by itself

The sentence is: "unless otherwise noted in your Order Form, Mindbody contracts automatically renew at the end of the current term unless the contract is terminated with proper notice by either party."

Proper notice has a deadline. "Mindbody currently requires at least 30 days' notice before the end of your contract term, unless otherwise noted in your agreement." The page also says the notice should be written: "submit written notice at least 30 days before your contract end date (or as specified in your agreement)."

On a 12-month term that puts the decision at the end of month 11. On a 36-month term it is the end of month 35. Miss the date and the contract renews. The explainer does not say how long the renewal term is. The Terms of Service set a default of "successive and consecutive 30-day periods" after a 90-day initial term, and they open that clause with "Unless otherwise specified in the Agreement". An Order Form for 12, 24 or 36 months is exactly that kind of specification. Ask which applies to yours and get the answer in writing.

Renewal is also when the price can move. The Terms of Service say "Mindbody may increase Locked fees effective as of your next Renewal Term". Fees that are not locked "are subject to change any time."

No cancelling mid-term

The explainer says it in one line: "Cancellation is not available mid-term unless otherwise stated in your Order Form".

It does not say what leaving early costs. The Terms of Service do: "If you elect to terminate this Agreement early, you will remain responsible for payment of all fees owed for the entire Subscription Term and will continue to be charged each month for the remainder of the Subscription Term." A second clause says "All payment obligations under this Agreement are non-cancelable and all fees paid are non-refundable."

Read at face value, that is the whole remaining term. A studio that wants out at month 10 of a 36-month contract has 26 monthly payments left, and the terms say it keeps making them. We have seen other sites put a percentage on an early termination penalty. We could not find a percentage on either Mindbody page, so we are not repeating one. The number Mindbody prints is all of it.

Your data has a 30-day window

The explainer says you can export "in standard formats, such as CSV files". Then it adds: "If you have a large volume of data and need additional support, Mindbody offers a data export service for an added fee." No amount is given. The service is "available for up to 30 days after cancellation, giving you a defined window to retrieve what you need."

The Terms of Service describe the window slightly differently. Mindbody will make your data available "For a period of no greater than 30 days following a notice of termination". After that, "Mindbody will have no obligation to retain or provide Your Data, except as required by applicable law."

One page counts from cancellation. The other counts from the notice. Neither is wrong, and they may describe two different things: the paid export service on the blog and standard access in the terms. The safe reading is the shorter one. Pull your own reports before you send the notice, which is what the explainer itself suggests when it says "you can download detailed performance reports before your term ends."

The terms also carve something out of that data. It is made available "except Cardholder Data". Saved cards are what keep memberships billing after a move, so ask Mindbody how they transfer before you plan a switch date.

What the complaint count adds

Mindbody's Better Business Bureau profile shows 103 complaints closed in the last 3 years. The count does not sort them by subject, and we are not going to guess at what each one was about. It is a reason to read your Order Form line by line, and the complaints are public if you want to read them too.

Six questions for the Order Form

Mindbody's page says "unless otherwise stated in your Order Form" for a reason. These are the lines to find before you sign, or before your notice date if you already have.

If the answer to any of them is "it depends", ask for it in the Order Form. The explainer is clear that the Order Form wins.

Where we stand on the same questions

We wrote what leaving Frontmat looks like before anyone asked. Frontmat is month to month with no minimum term. You cancel from your own settings page. The full export of members, history and ledger is there before, during and after you cancel, at no extra charge.

That is a different product decision, and it is not the only reasonable one. A three-year term can be the right trade for a studio that has negotiated for it. Know which month your notice is due.
